First-Year Applicants:
The decision about which students to admit is based upon a comprehensive review of the application. The number of students we can admit is determined by the number of spaces available at each college and the quality of the applicant pool which changes from year to year and varies from college to college within the university. Preference is given to students whose applications, fees or fee waivers, and all required transcripts, test scores, and other supporting documents were submitted by the priority application date according to the application instructions.
Our primary emphasis is placed on the student’s academic promise as demonstrated through the following factors:
- high school performance
- cumulative rank
- grade-point averages
- grade trends
- completion of required entrance subjects
- strength of academic program, evidenced by the number of academic, honors, or advanced placement courses completed
- SAT and/or ACT scores
- English Proficiency Examination results
For the Mason Gross School of the Arts, significant emphasis is placed upon a formal talent assessment.
We also consider such qualitative factors as:
- participation in programs designed for college preparation
- extracurricular activities
- community, volunteer, or U.S. military service
- honors and awards
- employment
- family obligations
- personal statements
- special talents
- socioeconomic background
