Become a Scarlet Ambassador


The Scarlet Ambassador Program is comprised of model students at Rutgers–New Brunswick. Scarlet Ambassadors are leaders in and out of the classroom and are dedicated to advancing the mission of Rutgers University as part of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The program aims to foster growth, personal development, leadership, professionalism, and teamwork among Scarlet Ambassadors while they cultivate the first impression of Rutgers for thousands of prospective students each year through campus tours, recruitment programs, and daily interactions with visiting students.


Scarlet Ambassadors are expected to:

  • Embody professionalism at all times
  • Uphold the goals and mission of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions
  • Work both as a tour guide and as a member of the Visitor Center Staff
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA or above
  • Attend monthly meetings and training seminars


How to Join

We are looking for students who are high achievers in the classroom, who have taken advantage of the multitude of resources at Rutgers University, who are involved in clubs, activities, honors programs, sports, research, etc., and who are passionate about sharing their Rutgers pride with everyone they meet.

To join the Scarlet Ambassador team, interested students must attend an informational meeting (to be held in mid-to-late January) and complete an online application. Applications will only be sent to those who have attended the meeting. Competitive applicants will take part in a group interview and a one-on-one interview before being offered a place on the team.

The hiring process for Scarlet Ambassadors happens once a year during the spring semester. Students hired in the spring will begin working in the summer or the following fall. First-year students may apply to begin working in their sophomore year.

The application/hiring timeline is as follows:

  • January – Informational Meeting at the Visitor Center
  • February – Online Application Open
  • March – Application Closed, Group Interviews Take Place
  • April – One-on-One Interviews Take Place and Final Notifications are sent

Scarlet Ambassadors undergo a rigorous training process that covers campus tours, event set up, and management of the daily operations at the Visitor Center.
