Required Credentials
The information below will assist you in completing your transfer application for the Rutgers Undergraduate Admissions Application. (Application processes differ at the School of Health Related Professions.)
Official High School Transcript(s)
  • Transfer students are required to submit (a) high school transcript(s).
  • Your high school transcript(s) must include all courses and final grades earned from grade 9 through graduation or leaving. Your transcript(s) should certify any diplomas you have earned.
  • If you were educated outside the U.S., make sure you submit all the required documents.

GED Results
  • If you have earned a GED diploma/certificate, your official results are required. The transcript(s) of any high school work you attempted is required in addition to the GED results.

Official College Transcript(s)
  • Official college transcript(s) from each college you have attended must include all courses you attempted and all grades earned each term leading up to the Application Due Date.
  • If you are currently enrolled in college, a list of courses in progress is also required.
  • If you were educated outside the U.S., make sure you submit all required documents.

SAT/ACT Scores
You are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores if:
  • You graduated from high school two or more years prior to the date you intend to begin classes at Rutgers.
  • You finished high school and subsequently completed 12 college credits with final course grades available by the Application Due Date.
You are required to submit official SAT or ACT scores if:
  • You are currently in your first semester of college, and
  • You will complete fewer than 12 college credits by the Application Due Date, and
  • Your final course grades will not be available by the Application Due Date, and
  • You graduated from high school fewer than two years before beginning classes at Rutgers.
All SAT and ACT scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to Rutgers.
  • Only official test scores submitted directly to us from the testing center are accepted.
  • When requesting your scores, use our SAT code of 2765 or our ACT code of 2592.
  • The ACT writing component is strongly recommended, though not required.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

  • An official TOEFL score is acceptable for applicants whose secondary schooling has been outside the U.S. in a country where English is not the principal language, regardless of U.S. residency or citizenship. Your official TOEFL score report must be from a test taken within two years of the date of your application and must be submitted directly to us from the testing service.
  • The minimum acceptable score to be considered for admission for all Rutgers schools (with the exception of the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and the School of Nursing) is a 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT) a 550 on the paper-and-pencil test. For Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and School of Nursing applicants, the minimum acceptable score to be considered for admission is a 100 on the iBT and a 600 on the paper-and-pencil test.
  • The Rutgers TOEFL code is 2765.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

  • An official IELTS academic score is acceptable for applicants whose secondary schooling has been outside the U.S. in a country where English is not the principal language, regardless of U.S. residency status. Your official IELTS score report must be from a test taken within the past two years. Your test score must be submitted directly to us from the testing service.
  • For Rutgers University-New Brunswick, the minimum acceptable score to be considered for admission is a 6.5 on either the academic paper-and-pencil test or the academic computer-based test. A score of 6 is the minimum acceptable score to be considered for Rutgers University-Camden and Rutgers University-Newark.

Michigan English Assessment Battery (MELAB)

  • An official MELAB score is acceptable for applicants whose secondary schooling has been outside the U.S. in a country where English is not the principal language, regardless of U.S. residency status. Your official MELAB score report must be from a test taken within the past two years and must be submitted directly to us from the testing service.
  • The minimum acceptable score is 82 for Rutgers University-New Brunswick and 76 for Rutgers University-Camden and Rutgers University-Newark.

Essay (Recommended)
  • An essay is recommended, not required, for transfer applicants. To be considered, essays must be included in the space provided on the application. They cannot be sent separately.

  • Information about your activities, employment, community service, family obligations, and other personal experiences, though not required, can enhance your application. If you would like us to consider this information, it must be included in the section provided on the application. Extracurricular activities may not be submitted separately.

Letters of Recommendation
  • Letters of recommendation are not used for admissions consideration. Our application provides multiple opportunities for applicants to describe their accomplishments, activities, community service, and personal experiences. You should be certain to complete all sections of the undergraduate admissions application to describe yourself.
